The first Preachers
came to America from England. Intimidated by the
American Continent they settled in cities such as New York and Philadelphia.
The Awakening: Francis Asbury arrived in America. Rode 350,000 miles on horseback preaching the “Good News” on the frontier as it moved westward. Establishing
hundreds of Methodist
societies.
Methodism established
in Mamaroneck NY January 1772.
Denomination is born: Church of England (John Wesley) finally agreed to make Methodists in America a separate denomination.
Mamaroneck society, led by the Circuit Riders, class attendance
record: 33 men and women. Including
both white and “coloured.”
Mamaroneck Methodist
Episcopal Church incorporated on April 8, 1813.
