FALL 2010 ADULT EDUCATION AT  MUMC

The Marriage Course

The Marriage Course is a 7-week course built around the concept of building communication between marriage partners.  The program, designed by ALPHA, will begin here at Mamaroneck UMC on Sunday evening, October 10.  Again, this course is more about strengthening relationships than about restoring broken marriages.

Bring a sense of fun and adventure, and enjoy a few weeks of “date nights” with one another.  Video presentations will present topics for couples to discuss privately after a delicious meal.  Child care will be provided for those who need it.  For more information, speak to Pastor Richard or to José Zeilstra.

Invitation:  to Psalms

You’re invited to join Pastor Richard this fall for a study of the book of Psalms.  Often called the Bible’s “hymnbook,” this rich collection of songs from our    Jewish heritage is a reminder that God invites us to worship with heart and soul, mind and strength.      Precisely because the book of Psalms covers the whole wide range of human emotions and feelings, it’s one of the most loved books in our scriptures.

The 10-session class will begin with an introductory meeting on Thursday, October 7, and will meet weekly through November 18.  After our first six sessions, we’ll take a break and meet again for four concluding sessions in January, beginning on January 6.

Money Matters

Except for his call to his hearers to live in the dawning “Realm of God,” Jesus talked about money more than any other single subject!  It’s not surprising, because our use of financial resources embodies our deepest beliefs, our prejudices, our hopes, our dreams, and our fears.

Therefore, we’re offering an ADDITIONAL adult study session this fall.  Beginning on Tuesday, October 5, and continuing for eight session through November 23, we’ll be  reading and discussing “Money Matters” by Rev. Michael Slaughter, pastor of one of the largest United Methodist Churches in the country, Ginghamsburg UMC in Tipp City, Ohio.

The double entendre of the title is intentional.  We’ll discuss these matters of personal finance because, yes, in our culture, money does matter.  In fact, it matters so much that Jesus reminded his followers that where we put our treasure will be where our hearts follow.
